Summary

Find possible conferences / journals to publish or present the final work from this internship

Background

A-level conferences are very competitive for paper acceptance. Some examples are NeurIPS, ICLR, and ICML. Refer to this site for a list.

Gonothi's idea is to contribute a research paper on the process and production resulting from this internship project.

This issue is only for scounting the conferences. The research paper and other related work will be done towards the end of the internship as appropriate.

Details

  • Present the idea to mentors at one of the weekly sync meetings and get feedback from them
  • Find and select 3-5 relevant event / journals based on feedback and discussion
  • Make sure the proposal deadlines of those selected are in end-August or later
  • Document the choices in this issue, and inform your mentors (either during a sync meeting, or async on Matrix also works)
  • Let the mentors know if there are any action items for them at this stage

Here are the venues I've scouted for publishing/presenting the work from this internship. Since my internship ends August 18, 2026, I focused on A-level ML/AI conferences whose submission deadlines fall after that, leaving time to write the paper (tracked in #152).

Deadlines below are based on each conference's historical pattern, since the official 2027 CFPs aren't all published yet — to be re-verified against the official sites closer to the time.

Top picks

1. ICML 2027 — International Conference on Machine Learning (top-tier ML)

  • Website: https://icml.cc/
  • One of the "big three" general ML venues (alongside NeurIPS and ICLR).
  • Historical deadline pattern: late January (ICML 2026 was abstract Jan 23 / full paper Jan 28), so ICML 2027's deadline lands ~late January 2027 — about five months after my internship ends, which leaves good runway.
  • ICML 2026 is July 6–11, 2026 in Seoul, South Korea; the 2027 edition continues the series.

2. AAAI 2027 — Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (A-level AI)

  • Website: https://aaai.org/conference/aaai/
  • Broad, well-regarded AI venue; good fit for an applied AI systems paper — and it's in Montréal, Canada (Feb 16–23, 2027), close to me in Québec, which is a real practical advantage for attending.
  • Supplementary material/code due July 31, 2026; final notification Nov 30, 2026. The main abstract/paper deadline historically lands early-to-mid August — the closest call relative to my Aug 18 end date, to be confirmed against the official CFP.

Backup options (also fit the timing)

3. NeurIPS 2027 (top-tier ML)https://neurips.cc/ — deadline historically ~mid-May (2027 conference in December).

4. ICLR 2027 (top-tier ML)https://iclr.cc/ — deadline historically ~late September (past: 2025-09-24, 2024-10-01).

5. EMNLP 2027 (A-level NLP)https://2026.emnlp.org/ via ACL Rolling Review (https://aclrollingreview.org/) — deadline historically ~late May; the most direct topical home for a RAG/LLM project.

Summary

My two preferred targets are ICML 2027 (top-tier ML, comfortable post-internship deadline) and AAAI 2027 (strong AI venue, conveniently located in Montréal). NeurIPS, ICLR, and EMNLP are listed as solid backups, all with deadlines after my Aug 18, 2026 end date.

Action items for mentors at this stage: none required yet — this is just the scouting step. I'd welcome your feedback at an upcoming sync (or async here / on Matrix), especially on whether ICML + AAAI are the right primary targets or if you'd steer me toward one of the backups (e.g. EMNLP for the NLP fit).

Your selections sound great! Let's take a look closer to the end of your internship and see what's appropriate for submission.

Sounds good, thanks @cybette! I'll keep an eye on the official 2027 CFPs as they get posted and we can lock in a target once the project results are firmer toward the end of the internship.
