The goal of this program is to recognize and reward outstanding contributions in the Fedora community. By encouraging nominations from peers, we aim to highlight individuals whose work has had a meaningful impact on the project.

Let’s organize it again this year and improve it based on the experience and lessons we gained from last year.

Notes from the March 17 meeting:

Last year’s nomination period (2 weeks) was too short → align on extending it to ~1 month
Proposed timeline: mid-April → mid-May (with a short extension if needed)
Agreement to exclude previous winners
Discussion around categories (e.g. newcomers vs long-term contributors), but concern about adding unnecessary complexity
Keep nominations simple, while guidelines and evaluation criteria can be refined by the selection board in parallel

Action item: everyone please review last year’s Contributor Recognition Program (wiki, criteria, nomination process, voting) and suggest improvements

I think the best way for me to be involved with this part is in the Flock day-of execution on stage. We have a slot scheduled this time, right before the close of the conference, to end with this contributor recognition event.

We need to decide on something for this by this Friday's meeting (i.e. 10th April 2026) because by the next meeting (i.e. 17th April 2026), we would have already crossed mid-April. We also need to find a way to have more continuous engagement around this event in the community.

PS. And not to mention, a Fedora Badge for those who win and those who were nominated too ;P

We need to decide on something for this by this Friday's meeting (i.e. 10th April 2026) because by the next meeting (i.e. 17th April 2026), we would have already crossed mid-April. Main focus: promotion for the Contributor Recognition Award on individual team meetings, community channels, and on our social media through the marketing team. We should promote the award in the Matrix announcements room, Red Hat CLE team, Fedora India groups, and the Latam Matrix room in Spanish.
Extend the contributor award nomination deadline from May 16th to May 30th to create buzz and increase the number of nominations received before Flock
Note: Justin suggested using actual photos of "Fedora humans" from Flock for the visual promotion, because it drives better engagement across all platforms
