Summary
Plan, organize, and execute the next Fedora Mentor Summit in 2026 (as part of Flock to Fedora 2026)
Background
We want to host this event again to support the culture of mentoring in the Fedora Community. This event will feature one to two days of content presented by Fedora mentors, past mentees, participants from other free and open-source communities, and anyone interested in becoming a part of Fedora as a mentor or mentee. Additionally, this provides a great opportunity to celebrate and express our gratitude to mentors who share their passion for mentoring within the Fedora Community.
Details
This issue is to gather discussion for the 2026 event, including event themes, goals and building the organizing team.
Outcome
The Fedora DEI Team supports another successful gathering of the Fedora Mentored Projects community and encourages the culture of mentoring in Fedora.

Discussed in 2025-12-11 DEI Team meeting.
In today’s meeting, we officially kicked off planning for the Fedora Mentor Summit 2026 with a primary focus on volunteer recruitment. To make the organization process more approachable for new volunteers, the team agreed to scope the event around the three successful activities from the previous year, while also remaining open to new ideas:
@recursedd and @Lochipi volunteered to assist with the effort, and @recursedd accepted an action item to draft a formal recruitment post for Fedora Discussion to build the full planning team as we move into the new year.

Hello team 👋
I’ve updated the slots with new dates for March, so please take a moment to vote by the end of this week (March 8) so I can finalize the date of our first meeting. https://whenisgood.net/ehk4ntb

Discussed in 2026-07-09 Fedora DEI Team meeting.
Early insights from the Flock 2026 post-event survey were shared. 39 of 117 respondents (33%) participated in Mentor Summit activities. It rated 3.2/5 as a session type, but qualitative feedback tells a more positive story: the mentor lunch was praised by multiple respondents for its topic-based format and openness to all attendees. The main problem reported was noise, with two respondents independently recommending a separate, quieter room. 13 respondents volunteered for the Mentor Summit Core Team in 2027. A "speed connector" event format was suggested as a complement to the mentor lunch.
