I guess as I'm working on the wallpaper, I'm torn between how close to reference Enigma's gears, references from online below, and leaning away from the exact layout of them for something more visually appealing and complex. The first reference photo is just one lump that doesn't evoke much movement or thoughtful composition. If I were to stay on the path of more explicitly referencing Enigma's gears, I like the idea of an expanded approach like the second reference, but from a different, less head-on perspective.
I've played around with my very basic knowledge of Blender to try to make some gears, with the goal of a 3D reference for figuring out the composition.
I've been working on the wallpaper as well. Here's the png version:
