I'm unfortunately encountering a problem when I try to export the wallpaper at 300 dpi, specifically when there's a gradient on top of it, where Inkscape crashes. I've looked it up, and there seem to be a few different reasons why it could be crashing and not exporting.

Solutions that are suggested online, that I don't know if they're actually good ideas:

  • Lowering the resolution (Maybe because it's a raster image right now, and at the huge size of 4096 x 4096 it would be fine to lower the resolution?)
  • Change the export format from png to jpg (I guess this would depend on whether or not one is easier to convert into JXL for packaging!)
  • Update Inkscape (it's unfortunately all updated)

Will workshop a few scenarios!

If I'm not mistaken 1920x1080 is still the most common resolution so you could test it with that and work from there

Feedback so far:

Julia suggested,

  • Add an apple symbol engraved (make sure to test cropping options for different monitors for best placement)
  • Maybe the gradient could be more of a prism

This looks fantastic! Nice iteration 🚀 I am wondering, for the dark theme, would it be interesting to change the type of metal used? It might not be historically accurate, but I wonder what it could look like with a steel gray or bronze color for the dark theme.

Just an idea, but I think the historical nod to the Enigma machine is an awesome easter egg.

I think texture on the background would give it more depth, as you suggested! I also like Justin's idea of changing the metal for the nighttime version - I think it would add more depth there too and make it pop more. But I'm not sure how easy that is to do!!

The light background could maybe benefit from a gradient like the dark version, too, but adding the texture might help with that? Or even make the rainbow more vibrant on the light one. I think it's great tho!!! Love the 3D render!!"
