Here is the mockup so far: https://design.penpot.app/#/view?file-id=dab87d84-952c-8181-8007-caeb6339a0b7&page-id=dab87d84-952c-8181-8007-caeb6339a0b8&section=interactions&index=0&share-id=0075361e-ccf8-8015-8007-de4b6f3b5a81

The plan is to have this be the base website. I am aware that there is a theme for this years but due to time constraints, I am unsure if it would be possible in this rendition. I also had this created before I was aware about the theme and there will not be time to change it.

I do however plan to have this be a good slate to be able to build upon for next years. This is just the first alpha release :)

Let me know what ye think anyways and looking forward to feedback!

Never mind that, I can't add labels, change assignees or modify the ticket in any way for whatever reason (even my own ones).

@jesschitas Thanks for opening this ticket! As far as timeline goes, it is a "nice to have" for the website changes to be rolled out for this Flock. However, if we cannot do that due to a limited planning time, that is okay. Based on our own discussions and feedback, it is better that this is done thoughtfully and intentionally. No need to rush things. 😀

To that end, I also kept meaning to ask @moralcode if he had an idea of where the Flock 2024 website interviews we organized during his internship went. I was looking for them in Google Drive, but I must not have been using the right search terms or looking in the right places. I thought that the user feedback and insights we collected from that was super insightful. It is likely still relevant for any design feedback as well.

When Jess and I first spoke about this project, our main goals for the Flock website redesign was to improve organization and structure of information. We already did a lot of work to improve the Flock website in 2024 from the first version of the Flock site. Now, we are refining and iterating on the solid base built in 2024. There are improvements to how we organize information, display CTAs, and show sponsor logos on the website. The details are in the Penpot links that Jess already shared. So, just to set some scope and intention for this project, it is not a drastic revamp and total design change. Rather, it is a refinement and iteration based on the last two years of running the conference, and what we might be able to improve for our attendees, organizers, and Fedora community.

Hi @jesschitas! This looks great & definitely improves on what is on https://fedoraproject.org/flock/2026/ at the moment! Adding the pastel versions of the branding colours is a nice touch & breaks up all the white previously there.

I wouldn't worry about incorporating the theme!! We could do something subtle, like having Colur in his usual thematic outfit beside the Important Dates instead of Beefy 😄 It can be a reference to the theme while keeping the page maintainable.

Top / Hero
I really like the block with the full colour Flock logo, date and CTA buttons. It helps keep all that key information at the top and standout against the colourful photo of the city. It also allows the photo to be shown with more colour, which is nice as some cities have distinctive features, like Prague’s terracotta roofs! I also appreciate how photos and info can be easily swapped out each year with the respective location and hotel.

FAQs
I suggest moving the FAQs to live between the ‘Venue and Hotel’ and Sponsor sections. Since the page’s primary audience is attendees, the FAQs are more relevant to them than the Sponsors section.

Sponsors
I like what you did with the sponsors list. It keeps it readable & structured. I think we can be more minimal with the ‘Benefits’ part. While our primary audience is possible attendees, our secondary audience is sponsors. We want potential sponsors to see the current sponsor list and think "Hey, I want to be there!” and go straight to the prospectus. The two bullet points don’t fully capture the full value of sponsoring Flock and might actually undersell it a bit.

I’d suggest we remove the 'Benefits' section and replace it with a CTA button. This keeps the section clean and lets the prospectus do the talking 😄

Examples of other open source conferences & how they treat sponsor information:

Great work 😄

Agree with Emma about everything she mentioned! I think the visibility of the 3 buttons (what is flock/schedule/register) under the date is much improved in your version. And by keeping it in the white block bubble, the logo & text colors don't have to be considered when the photo is swapped.

+1 to the FAQ moving up from the bottom of the page.

Benefits to Sponsoring Flock
I wonder if the dark fedora blue lines separating the gold, silver and bronze sponsors would stay for the final, or if they should just be a guide.

I know besides the colors and being inside the block bubble, this section hasn't changed from the current layout or info but I agree with Emma it's lacking the pizazz needed to grab future sponsors. Definitely +1 to a simple button that redirects to a new page with the info laid out in a clear way that wins the user over.

I think the all things open 'why sponsor' page shows a new page for just sponsor info, can be laid out in a super simple way while offering a look behind the curtain to the benefits.

Examples of other open source conferences & how they treat sponsor information:

All Things Open have a CTA button underneath the sponsor block that links to https://2026.allthingsopen.org/why-sponsor that acts like our prospectus.
FOSS Backstage have a ‘Become a Partner’ page accessible through their menu https://26.foss-backstage.de/become-a-partner/. This page also has a button to download the prospectus.

@ekidney Agree with all of this! I think this would be good to also migrate the existing prospectus from the wiki to a new webpage and make it more enticing for new companies that want to sponsor.
I will take this into consideration after Flock however as I believe the redesign that I have is to be pushed before Flock along with some small changes like simplifying the Prospectus section as I also agree with cleaning that section up but we could possibly collab after Flock on this and make something cool :)

Thank you for all the feedback, really appreciate it :)

Here is a screenshot of the simplified Sponsors section with just a button at the end to view the Prospectus. I did also realise that it's redirecting to slides but making a page for next year would be the way to go but let me know what you think about this approach. I also understand that the sectioning of the sponsors is also different. I am new to the language that the website is coded in so I don't think I am technically there yet to do the grid but will see if I can get some help from others :)
