What do you need?

We are requesting design support and visual assets for the upcoming virtual Fedora Linux 45 Release Party, scheduled for October 30, 2026.

Specifically, we need:

  • Event Banner / Header Graphics: For use on Fedora Discussion announcements, Fedora Magazine, and social media promotion.
  • Streaming / Presentation Assets: Lower-thirds, stream title/holding screens, and/or slide deck templates for speakers.
  • Fedora Badge Art: An attendee badge icon for community members joining the virtual release party.

During the 2026-09-15 CommOps meeting, Emma Kidney (@ekidney) and Madeline Peck (@madelinepeck) were identified as potential leads/collaborators based on previous release party work, but any contributor from the Design Team is welcome to lead or collaborate on this!

Request type

Graphic Design / Artwork (logo, an icon, an infographic, swag design, etc.)

Problem Statement

The Fedora Linux 45 Release Party is scheduled for October 30, 2026, as a 3-hour virtual event across the global community. High-quality, cohesive visual assets are crucial to promote the event across communication channels (Fedora Magazine, Fedora Discussion, Mastodon/social channels) and to give the live virtual presentation a polished, professional look. Without dedicated design support, promotional reach is diminished and the event experience is less engaging.

Contacts

  • Primary Contact: Justin Wheeler (@jflory7) — F45 Release Party Wrangler
  • Promotions & Content Lead: Shaun McCance (@shaunm)
  • Speaker Management Lead: Aoife Moloney (@amoloney)
  • Requesting Team: Fedora Community Operations (CommOps) Team
  • Planning Ticket: commops/tickets#143

Deadline

  • Event Date: October 30, 2026
  • Asset Delivery Deadline: October 16, 2026 (roughly 4 weeks from now, allowing a 2-week lead time for promotions, Fedora Magazine articles, and stream configuration).

Who will benefit?

This benefits the entire Fedora community. The Fedora Linux 45 Release Party brings together contributors, users, and newcomers to celebrate the new release, learn about major features, and connect. Well-designed promotional and streaming assets directly boost attendance, engagement, and visibility across our ecosystem.

Inspiration Examples

  • Prior Fedora Release Party banners and badges (e.g., F44, F43, and F42 release party graphics created by the Fedora Design Team).
  • Standard Fedora branding guidelines and the F45 release artwork/wallpaper theme palette.
  • Prior ticket reference: commops/tickets#143

Priority / Severity

High (This will bring a huge increase in performance/productivity/usability cover)

For some reason some release parties aren't here, but we'll probably reuse the format from F43/44 with the new background:

@jflory7 Hi Justin! Just looking at this during our triage.

Event Banner / Header Graphics: For use on Fedora Discussion announcements, Fedora Magazine, and social media promotion.

We were wondering what specific socials would you need graphics for so we can size them accordingly.

Streaming / Presentation Assets: Lower-thirds, stream title/holding screens, and/or slide deck templates for speakers.

We haven't created lower thirds for release parties before, and I dont think believe them to be necessary. Last time it was on restream, will this be the case again? I think it looked nice last year with just the speaker and their slides.

For stream title, is that just the thumbnails? Do we need individual thumbnails for each talk? Do we have a spreadsheet / CSV file of the talks that will be taking place.

For the slideshow template, the generic Fedora one can be used.

Fedora Badge Art: An attendee badge icon for community members joining the virtual release party.

We are no longer taking Fedora Badge requests in the Fedora Design ticket queue, this will have to be logged in the badges queue.

We would promote on the usual four: Mastodon, LinkedIn, Instagram, and YouTube Posts.

I totally used the wrong words here 😅🫣 The ask is really for the following assets:

  • Individual video thumbnails for each speaker/presentation
  • Matrix room icons for the main party room, a speakers room, and an organizers room
  • F45 Wallpaper background to fit Restream
  • Attendee badge

Yes, we will use Restream again.

No, there is not a final schedule yet. @amoloney is working on building out the schedule. I think it is reasonable to have this within a week of the event. It depends how quick speakers are to confirm.

I see. I guess we have to drop the badge. I also don't have capacity to onboard and train a new designer for producing badge artwork. 😕

Does this also apply to Flock and other flagship events like FOSDEM and DevConf? In the past, I leaned on designers to make these badges. I am wondering how we should proceed with those kinds of requests generally, or if we should deprecate the use of badges for events going forward, if there is no one to answer the call. To the best of my knowledge, there are no more Fedora Badges designers working on the project. Is this still true?

I wonder if we could use generative AI for processing Badges requests in the future…

Thanks for the clarification @jflory7 :)

I am actually trying out a new AI workflow with Claude Code for generating standard requests like this. It's still in early stages but I do think it might work for badges too. I'm using this ticket as my first trial run with it and I'm documenting the process for my blog!

Anyway, I have attached the requested assets for the F45 Release Party as a ZIP below. Included in the ZIP is:

Matrix Room Icons

Three room icons with colour differentiation:

  • F45_main - Main Party Room (Fedora blue)
  • F45_backstage - Speakers/Backstage Room (dark mode with Fedora blue)
  • F45_organisers - Organisers Room (dark mode with Features orange)

These are reworked icons that Nikita made for the F41 release party :)

Social Media Graphics

  • Mastodon: 1600x900px (16:9)
  • LinkedIn: 1200x1200px (square)
  • Instagram Square: 1080x1080px (1:1)
  • Instagram Portrait: 1080x1350px (4:5) - Recommended for feed posts
  • Instagram Story: 1080x1920px (9:16)

All graphics feature the F45 Wallpaper background with the official Fedora logo.

Video Assets

YouTube templates for the livestream:

  • fedora-45-youtube-talk-template - Template with %VAR_Title% and %VAR_Speakers% ready for generating once schedule is available.
  • Youtube stream thumbnail: 1280x720px

Stream Background

  • F45-restream-background.png - 1920x1080px background for the Restream platform (I got these dimensions from a quick search so let me know if this works or needs adjusting!)

Let me know if anything needs changing!

Promotional graphics assisted by Claude Sonnet 4.5.

At a quick glance of the files, these look fantastic! This has nearly everything I need and will unblock me on some of the comms and outreach work.

Oh, maybe one thing which is missing is a Fedora Magazine featured image with the party, wallpaper, and date (30 October). Is it possible to also generate that?

Thanks so much! 🙏

Whoops! apologies I forgot to include that 🙈

Here's an updated zip that include the Fedora Magazine banner sized at 1890x800px
