Going forward, only fully versioned packages for libgit2 will be provided. Dependent libraries and applications are adapted to build and link with the specific libgit2 version they support, and the version-less package names will no longer be provided.

Owners, do not implement this work until the FESCo vote has explicitly ended.
The Fedora Program Manager will create a tracking bug in Bugzilla for this Change, which is your indication to proceed. See the FESCo ticket policy and the Changes policy for more information.

+1 here. We may want to notify/rope in the epel steering folks for comment about that part of things...

I would have filed a separate proposal with them if / when this is approved, since I don't think Change proposals cover EPEL (or ... do they?) - but FWIW @carlgeorge inspired the changes proposed here.
