Oh, we have this:
This means @decathorpe's interpration is correct.
That said, I think we should change the policy, and if only one person drops out in the first half of their elected term, allow the elected replacement to serve for a full year. Then, normally, the policy would be simple: "an elected members get one year". This would mean that the 4 vs. 5 seat alternating elections would flip, but that is OK.
If two or more members drop out, then indeed, the current policy makes sense, and the candidates who came in 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th, (up to the number of seats being filled), should only serve for half year, so that at the next election, we would return to the alternating 4 vs. 5 schedule.
I'll think about this some more and make a proposal to change the policy.
But either way, if we agree to update the PR as suggested, we can decide this all later.
Let's discuss this at the meeting this evening.
This issue will be discussed at the next meeting on 2026-07-14.
I prepared a draft: fesco/docs#148
Proposal: Merge @zbyszek's PR
I forgot to mention one thing: the policy should apply to the current term too, i.e. @supakeen's term would be extended to be the normal full year instead of half.
FTR, +1 to @gotmax23's proposal
+1
+1 to merge @zbyszek's PR.
There's still a few hours left until the full week is up. Please vote if you haven't already.
+1
I'm explicitly +1 (in case that wasn't already implied by me proposing this). If/when this is approved, we also need to update https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/#fesco-members.
+1
After a week, @gotmax23's proposal to approve my proposal is approved (+6, 0, 0). I'll merge the docs PR.
