Yeh, even for old packages they tend to either slowly die or people packaging them in distros. tend to create an new upstream. So I'd suggest they see what the other big distros. have for the…

I would guess it's likely that even the better package spec files run into real life enough that they aren't great examples. Also not sure who would have time to go through a lot of the specfiles.
