Hi folks,

The docs team are looking to add a ‘Contribution’ section to the Docs homepage. The objective is to show/present to visitors to the home page that Fedora thrives on contributions from people like them---which will hopefully encourage more people to look into contributing (and come to us!).

A first rough draft is in staging here: https://docs.stg.fedoraproject.org/en-US/docs/

Could folks (the Join SIG) please think about this and make suggestions to the docs team as to which topics / SIGs / teams the other boxes should sensibly be filled with?

It'll include important bits like packaging and docs, of course, but we also want to make sure that non-technical contributions are highlighted so we can attract non-technical contributors too.

Please comment here with any ideas, and we can pass them on to the docs team.

@join/Owners @join/Members : lets hope tagging teams sends notifications..

Definitely remove the packaging guidelines from the "Fedora Project & Community" section if they're also added to the contributing to fedora section.

Hi folks, @pbokoc, @pboy, and I had a check-in call today on Fedora Docs, and we were curious whether this had been discussed. This work is progressing quickly, and the opportunity to influence the future direction is ideally now or very soon!

I've been a part of the join team a bit and haven't seen this discussed.

We don't do meetings, so folks just need to leave their feedback here.

CC @join/Owners @join/Members : please chime in, this is time sensitive.

In the interest of sparking a discussion, here are some of my own (human-generated) thoughts on what might be nice to see on a Fedora Docs site front-page as a new contributor perspective:

In the interest of sparking a discussion, here are some of my own (human-generated) thoughts on what might be nice to see on a Fedora Docs site front-page as a new contributor perspective: * **Join SIG Docs**: New page to aggregate "getting started" or onboarding docs from other Fedora teams, WGs, and SIGs. There are several different teams in Fedora and they don't always share identical workflows and processes. For the teams which have documentation and/or guidance for new contributors, create an aggregated "Getting Involved" page, and link to this specific page from the Fedora Docs homepage in the _Fedora Project & Community_ section. * **Mentored Projects**: Remove GSoC from homepage, since we have not participated in a few years. Remove Outreachy from homepage. Instead, link to "[Fedora Mentored Projects](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mentored-projects/)", which has information about all mentored projects and intern programs that Fedora participates in. It is also includes information for mentors and program administrators. * **Suggested changes to "Fedora Project & Community" section**: I would create a user interface which stacks the options in this descending order: * 1st row: [Fedora Project](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/project/) * 2nd row: [Fedora Council](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/council/), [Fedora Engineering Steering Committee (FESCo)](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/), [Fedora Mindshare Committee](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mindshare-committee/) * 3rd row: [Engineering Teams](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/engineering/), [Mindshare Teams](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mindshare/) * 4th row: [Fedora Packaging Guidelines](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/), [Fedora Program Operations](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/operations/), [Fedora Mentored Projects](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/mentored-projects/) * 5th row: [Fedora Join SIG](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-join/) (could be the page described above), [Fedora CI](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/ci/), [Fedora ELN](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/eln/), [Cloud SIG](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/cloud/) * 6th row: [Fedora Discussion Guidelines](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/discussion-forum-guidelines-and-rules/), [Fedora Containers](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/containers/), [Security SIG](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/security/), [Gaming on Fedora](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/gaming/) * 7th row: [Fedora Localization](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/localization/), [DEI Teams](https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/dei/)

I think collecting together the "getting started" pages of other teams would be really nice idea. I like the "Contributing and making Fedora Linux better" section on the STG docs, and I think a link to this page could be the 3rd link / 2nd row.

One of the two unassigned buttons could be a link to the CoC (a meta page, where we tell users what the code of conduct is, and what to do if somebody is breaking it - how to report it).

The last unassigned button should belong to a page where we explain how to do some stuff in the FAS, I explained how to link your matrix account, how to add SSH/GPG keys more times then is probably healthy (i know it without looking it up now), so I think a guide on those would be nice for new joiners.

Agree with Justin on the mentored projects.
