Welcome Message & Introduction
Welcome
Hello
@raunistotle(FAS profile)! Welcome to Fedora! Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
Get to know each other better
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hey Everyone
I'm Raunak Rose and thank you @smoliicek for opening this ticket. I have introduced myself in the mailing list.
FOSS Experience
My Skills
I am currently pursuing my Bachelor of Engineering in CS, having worked with technologies such as Web Dev, and containers in languages such as JS (everybody shed a tear) , Go and Python. I am currently learning Rust and would love to work on some projects using Rust or Go (preferably but hey I welcome anything I can contribute to) . I use NeoVim btw and I rewrite my Neovim config weekly because it can always be better.
I have moved from Windows to Fedora as my main OS since a few weeks and I really love the distro's balance of stability and up to date rolling releases. I was worried will my hardware have good support but this Thinkpad works better than Windows could ever ( losing fingerprint sensor was a small price to pay for salvation).
Communication Platforms
No opinions on real time chat either because my only experience is Discord, Slack, Whatsapp, insta and such.
Volunteering
Thank you again for welcoming me into this community and looking forward to contributing and growing with all of you!
Hello! Welcome to Fedora!
I updated your ticket tags to reflect what you have written in you introduction. If you wan't something changed, drop a comment here.
I also frankly couldn't find your email in my inbox/the archives. Do note that you need to subscribe to the mailing list and only after that you can send messages to it. I can help you with it if needed.
Based on what you want to do, I could direct you to:
(PS: ThinkPad fingerprint support could work on Fedora, if you want to, drop by in #fedora:fedoraproject.org on Matrix and we can help you)
Hey @smoliicek thanks a lot for the update.
I did subscribe to the mailing list and I have received a mail too from the list. Must be some issue with the mailing list not sure about that since it shows that my mail was sent to fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org.
I have sent another if you could confirm you received my mail that would be helpful.
Thanks for the community directs I will check them out.
I did look into the fingerprint sensor part, it seems my specific sensor in my E14 thinkpad isnt supported according to the fprint.freedesktop.org. Maybe I will write my own driver :)
