Welcome Message & Introduction
Welcome
Hello @blews999! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
Get to know each other better
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hi everyone!
Thank you for the warm welcome — I really appreciate it!
My name is Daniel (blews999), and I’m currently a university student studying information technology. I’m very passionate about backend development, AI, and building real-world systems that solve meaningful problems. I’m especially interested in working with scalable systems and eventually contributing to impactful open-source projects.
This is my first time actively participating in a FOSS community, although I’ve used open-source tools for a long time. I’m excited to learn how collaboration works in such environments and to grow both technically and socially by contributing alongside others.
In terms of skills, I have experience with:
JavaScript (Node.js, Express)
Building backend systems (APIs, authentication, databases)
Git and GitHub workflows
Basic Linux usage (I’m currently getting more comfortable working in a Linux environment, including Fedora)
I’m currently exploring more advanced backend concepts and also working towards integrating AI into projects. I’d love to contribute to areas where I can learn while also adding value — especially backend-related tasks or anything involving APIs and systems.
For communication:
I’m new to mailing lists but excited to start using them
I’m comfortable with chat platforms like Discord/Matrix
I haven’t moderated forums before, but I’m open to learning
Time-wise, I can dedicate around 15–25 hours per week to contributing and learning.
I learned about Fedora through the open-source community and Outreachy-related exploration, and I was really drawn to how active and collaborative the community is.
Looking forward to learning, contributing, and connecting with everyone here. Please feel free to point me to beginner-friendly tasks or areas where I can get started!
Thanks again
Daniel
