Welcome Message & Introduction
Welcome
Hello
@producerrob(https://accounts.fedoraproject.org/user/producerrob/)! Welcome to Fedora! Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
Get to know each other better
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hello everyone,
My name is Rob, and I’m a Senior Marketing and Creative professional with around 14 years of experience in video editing, motion graphics, sound design, creative direction, and promotional marketing. Most of my career has been focused on creating high-impact short-form content for television, film, sports, and digital platforms. My work has involved everything from editing and copywriting to audio mastering, 3D animation, and creative strategy.
Recently, I’ve become increasingly interested in Free/Open Source Software and the idea of helping build creative ecosystems that are accessible to everyone — regardless of financial background. I strongly believe creative tools, education, and professional-quality workflows should not be locked behind expensive subscriptions or corporate gatekeeping. I’d love to contribute to projects and communities that help people reach their highest creative potential using open technologies.
My experience with FOSS is still growing, but I’ve been actively exploring Linux-based creative workflows and self-hosted infrastructure. I’m especially interested in Fedora Server, homelabs, containerization, creator-focused Linux workflows, and the growing role Linux plays in professional post-production, VFX, animation, and AI-assisted creative pipelines.
I imagine my place in a FOSS community being somewhere between creative advocacy, marketing, education, and content production. I’d love to help communicate the value of open-source tools and communities in a way that inspires more creators, students, and professionals to get involved. I’m particularly interested in helping with:
marketing and outreach
promotional video production
motion graphics/3D animation
creative storytelling
community advocacy
creator onboarding and education
Sample of Professional Work
Background / Skills:
Video editing and finishing
Motion graphics and 3D animation
Sound design and audio mastering
Creative marketing and copywriting
Trailer/sizzle editing
Broadcast and digital media workflows
Some Linux server and virtualization experience through Fedora Server and UTM
Beginner-to-intermediate command line usage and self-hosted systems
Familiarity with Blender, Kdenlive, Ardour, Inkscape, Gimp, and other open creative tools
Fedora Brand Animation (Blender, Fedora 44)
Fedora 44 Spec Ad (Cut in Kdenlive, 3D in Blender, Audio in Ardour on Fedora 44 OS)
Operating Systems:
I currently use macOS professionally, but I’m actively learning and experimenting with Fedora Linux and Linux-based creative workflows. Fedora is quickly becoming one of the distributions I’m most interested in because of its balance between modern technology, stability, and professional infrastructure.
Communication Platforms:
I’ve worked extensively in collaborative production environments using chat platforms, project management systems, cloud collaboration, and broadcast workflows. I’m comfortable learning new communication systems and participating in community discussions. Real-time chat platforms like Matrix and Discord are probably the most natural fit for me.
Time Commitment:
At the moment, I’d realistically be able to contribute a few hours per week consistently, with occasional larger contributions depending on project needs and scheduling.
I’m excited to learn more, meet people in the community, and hopefully contribute in ways that help Fedora and the larger open-source creative ecosystem continue to grow.
Thanks for having me!
