Welcome Message & Introduction

Welcome

Hello @niknikovsky(FAS profile)! Welcome to Fedora!

Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.

These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:

Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).

Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?

If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)

Get to know each other better

In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).

For example:

  • your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:

    • have you participated in FOSS before, or is this the first time?
    • how do you imagine your place in a FOSS community?
  • your background/skills, for example:

    • community development and outreach, campaigning, journalism
    • Operating System (Do you use GNU/Linux as your main OS? Is Fedora Linux your main distribution?)
    • non-software development: design (Inkscape/Gimp/?), music/video/podcasting, marketing, language proficiency
    • software development related: command line, version control: git/hg/svn/?, rpm/packaging, programming languages/frameworks/utilities, testing, infrastructure/sysadmin
  • your experience in communication platforms:

    • have you used mailing lists before?
    • what is your preferred real time chat platform?
    • have you helped with moderating/administering forums?
  • how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?

Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.

Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).

Introduction & About Me

Hello everyone!

I officially joined the Design Team in December 2025, so some people here might already know me. If you do, you are more than welcome to spill your thoughts here—whether they are negative or positive, as a precaution or as a recommendation, I really don't mind!

I actually already introduced myself on a Fedora mailing list a while back, but I can't seem to find the confirmation email anywhere, so I guess I am doing this again here. My FAS account itself was actually made way before December 2025 for some reason, so if anyone happens to find ancient Matrix logs from back then, you will probably find utter nonsense.

As of writing this, I am 17 years old and an IT student. I'm currently navigating the Polish technical school system—which is a bit complicated to explain, but there's a chance I might not make it to the second grade without passing a correctional exam in August. Because of that, I plan to dedicate most, if not all, of my spare time to volunteering here during the vacation season. The only exception will be August 26th and a few days preceding it, when I'll be unavailable so I can focus entirely on studying for that exam.

Getting to Know Me Better

1. Experience with FOSS & Community Role
This is my first time working in a serious, formal team in an organization that actually matters, so it's a completely fresh start for me. I imagine my place here primarily as a core member of the Design Team, but down the line, I'd also be open to helping out as a moderator.

2. Background & Technical Skills

  • Operating Systems: My main daily driver is actually an amalgamation of Windows 10 and 7, though I do have Fedora running on most of my computers.
  • Design Tools: For graphic design and media, my go-to tools are Inkscape and Lightroom 5.
  • Development Utilities: On the technical side, I know my way around basic Git commands (like pull, push, add, and commit).
  • AI Fluency: I am pretty fluent with AI tools, including text utilities, and have a sharp eye for spotting fake or AI-generated images.

3. Communication & Moderation Platforms
While I use Matrix for real-time tracking here, I have about 5 years of experience handling community interaction and moderation over on Discord.

4. The Mystery Referral
To be honest, I don't remember exactly who referred me to the Fedora project originally. However, I know I recently referred someone else to the Design Team who probably should have an onboarding ticket in this repository, though they don't seem to have one yet.

I'm really hoping this will turn out great and look forward to working with all of you!
yes I did somewhat AI generate this, but all of the info is correct

Nothing new aside from joining this team.
Also, just a heads up that I will probably be unavailable on 8/8/26 because I'm being forced to take a trip so I "don't spend the whole vacation season at home"

A whole lot happened from me tonight.
I made a script that hunts down inactive tickets from this repository and highlights them.
I then proceeded to label all of the 100+ tickets.
In one sitting.
No water, no breaks, nothing.
I guess this shows either my dedication or diagnosed ADHD
