Welcome Message & Introduction
Welcome
Hello
@jp851-writer(FAS profile)! Welcome to Fedora! Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org. We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills, anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in touch! :)
Get to know each other better
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
Hi all! I am interested in creating, editing, and updating content. I have a background in writing and editing and also in military software training. I'm leaning toward getting more technical writing experience and am looking @ Fedora as an opportunity to contribute and develop my skills in a "real-world" environment. When I'm not at my computer, I love being outdoors, playing and/or watching sports, and have ventured into learning to play the flute as an adult. It's going okay. Very okay.
I learned about Fedora through my own research into FOSS projects as I was looking for ways to contribute my skillset and improve my tech writing skills.
This is my first experience in working on the development side of FOSS, though I love using FOSS products, so am excited to learn more about Fedora!
Currently using MacOS bc I don't feel like I know enough to transition to a linux OS! Hoping that will change soon. Maybe through this community :).
I have ghostwritten several books for indie authors, have edited complex tech content, and have teaching experience in various environments. I also have experience in audio production, podcast content development, and creating user guides and short training videos (Camtasia, ppt).
Have assisted with mailing lists, but not for a long time. Preferred real-time chat platform is Mattermost, though i don't use it much currently. I don't have experience moderating/administering forums.
Currently, I can spend about fifteen hours/week volunteering, and possibly more. My workload is light right now and I really want to get some experience that I can add to my portfolio. I guess I should ask, is this any violation of copyright/privacy stuff? I am happy to redact details if need be, so long as I can present my contribution in a way that would showcase my skills. Please let me know!
Looking forward to learning and growing here. Thanks! :)
Did I put this in the correct place? Do i need to add it to the chat? Trying to learn my way around and understand how Forge/Fedora/Matrix integrate.
Hello!
Just doing a quick check-in to see how you're settling in.
Are you stuck anywhere, or would you like some guidance on finding a team to join? Feel free to ask any questions!
Also, I believe this is the right place to put this.
