Welcome
Hello @perpetrator ! Welcome to Fedora!
Before we begin, please subscribe to the Fedora join mailing list at
fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org.
We use this list for general discussion, and it is also where the community
shares tasks that need help.
These links are a good read to begin with. They tell you what the Free/Open
Source community is about, and then they'll introduce you to Fedora: what
Fedora is all about, and what we do, and of course, how we do it:
Next, when you're ready, could you please introduce yourself (preferably on
the list) so that the community can get to know you? (Interests, skills,
anything you wish to say about yourself really).
Finally, could you let us know how you learned about the Fedora project? Was it
from a colleague, or social media, for example?
If you have any questions at all, please ask! We'll use this ticket to keep in
touch! :)
Get to know each other better
In addition, could you provide some information to understand your requirements
better? (You can write them in the introduction, or answer here if you feel more
comfortable).
For example:
your experience with Free/Open Source Software (FOSS) communities/ecosystems:
your background/skills, for example:
your experience in communication platforms:
how much time are you looking to/are you able to spend on volunteering (approximate hours per week)?
Remember that this is not a job interview at all. This is just an icebreaker to
help all your new friends get to know you quicker. The better we know you, the
better we can support you in identifying Fedora activities that promise to be
relevant for you.
Please write how much/whatever you wish. :).
I dont really know how mailing lists work, So do i just send an email to fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org ?
One first subscribes to a mailing list and then posts. All members of the mailing list will receive e-mails from the list, and they can all post to it too.
Some more info here: https://docs.mailman3.org/en/latest/userguide.html (but do search the web, lots of info there too)
Metadata Update from @alciregi:
So should i post my introduction here too? cause ive already posted it on the mailing list. i see you have untagged me on the introduction requested, so whats next?
No, one can simply link to the mailing list post, eg:
https://lists.fedoraproject.org/archives/list/fedora-join@lists.fedoraproject.org/message/NP2EL63ZQEGFMMMEWYZM4LAEVIC5JACR/
There's no explicit next step. The idea is for you to go through the links to explore Fedora and see what you find interesting enough to then get involved in. If you have any queries/ideas/comments/feedback, you can use this ticket (or any other community channel at all) to discuss it with others and so on.

Alright thanks, ill see what i can do
i wanna get started with packaging, how do i do that?
You'd start here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/package-maintainers/Joining_the_Package_Maintainers/
Hi Muneer,
What a great introduction.
I'm glad you're looking at Google Summer of Code. Mixing your motivations with our needs is a good fit. Volunteering should help both parties and it's great you can identify that.
If you want to get into packaging, do you know about COPR https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/ where you can package your stuff? Packaging is not the easiest to get into so you should show off your mad skills first.
You are a great writer, and well motivated. I'm really glad to have you on board.
If there are any questions you have, or anyone or areas we can introduce you to, we are here to help.
Best Regards,
Mat

Hi again Muneer,
Just checking in to see if we can do anything for you.
There is a program I would like to see packaged, xmox.nl mail server. I have asked a few other new people to look into it too, could be a good group effort to work on?
All the best,
Mat
