Event description(s) (2-4 sentences per event): Since their inception in 1999 the Chemnitzer Linux-Tage have gained a reputation of being the German FLOSS community event attracting more than 3000 visitors over a weekend in March. The event takes place at the faculty of computer science/information technology at the Chemnitz university of technology and countless volunteers make it happen. There are talks, demonstrations, live workshops, community projects and some companies who present themselves. The Fedora Project usually had a physical booth at Chemnitzer Linux-Tage each year since 2007 with the exception of mainly the years of COVID-19 pandemic.

Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?: Because it's one of the FLOSS community events in Germany (the other one is FrOSCon from my point of view), where mainly users, but also developers, from all over Germany come together. The event targets users, not developers, but users can become developers or contributors over time. Usually all common/large Linux distribution communities attend the event with a booth, while it might be not a good argument. Visitors are looking for somebody to talk about Fedora in person and to raise their questions they might not raise online. Aside of this, people are also even looking for a Fedora booth (see next section for details).
Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?: Because I really enjoy this event, the people there and I like to help them with all the questions and issues they come up with - and I'm a Fedora ambassador. I wouldn't drive 2x 450 km by car (2x ~5 hours plus traffic jams) about each year if the event wouldn't be worth it. And I'm attending the event, with or without a Fedora booth. When I attended in 2023 and 2024 as a regular visitor without a Fedora booth (unfortunately not enough Fedora people, due to different reasons, to cover the organiser's requirements for a booth), I was really asked often in both years why there is no Fedora booth and whether there will be one again.

This definitely looks like a valuable event to have a Fedora Project community presence at. For a regular event like this, and given that we have a more reliable representation with the Fedora Project community booth, I am all for making it happen. Fingers crossed that we get some talks selected in the next year onwards, but until then, event reports will suffice. Along the same lines, I will also ask for a rationale section on the Fedora Project wiki page for the event, just like we have for DevConf.IN 2026 and SCALE23X, which would further help us build the case on why we would want to support more of these events down the road.

Hi @robert-scheck. First, I am sorry for the radio silence here. I was buried in administrative backlog. I'm catching up on my Mindshare ticket updates from last week.

The good news: The Mindshare Committee officially voted and APPROVED this funding request ($210 USD for the hotel) during our March 19th meeting! You and @rapgro are fully cleared on that front. Just a quick reminder to ensure the post-event report includes the detailed insights the committee requested (e.g., specific attendee questions, topics discussed at the booth) rather than just a teaser.

Regarding the missing Fedora event box from Brno: I see your pings and I understand the urgency since the event is this weekend. I am not optimistic, but I escalated this to find out if it shipped and to get you a tracking number if it did.

I will reach out to you directly on Matrix once I have a concrete update. We are also working in DMs to come up with backup rush-order backups if the box cannot get shipped. Thank you for your patience and for holding down the fort for this event!

Closing out the paperwork on this one. Chemnitzer Linux-Tage 2026 took place March 22-23 in Chemnitz, Germany, and Fedora had a community booth presence. I believe @raphgro confirmed that his hotel reimbursement was received from Red Hat.

That said, I want to be transparent that the level of reporting here makes it difficult for the Mindshare Committee to evaluate the impact of our investment. The Reports section on the wiki is empty, and the Discourse post does not cover what conversations happened at the booth, what brought people to our table, what went well, or what we would do differently next time. These are the kinds of details that help the committee make informed decisions when future funding requests come in for the same event.

I recognize that we did not provide a clear template or set of expectations for event reports at the time this event was approved, and that is something we need to improve on our side as a committee. If CLT is proposed again for 2027, I would like to see the report expectations defined up front so that we have a shared understanding of what is needed to close out the funding cycle.
