Hello I am from the Linux App Summit 2026 organizing committee. We are reaching out per Justin Wheeler's request to ask for Fedora to help us with audience acquisition to our conference.

Fedora has been a financial sponsor in the past (and we hope you will be in the future as well) We are looking to leverage your media channels to increase our participation, drive a bigger follower count to our social media accounts, and hopefully fund any participants to our conference.

The theme for this conference this year is Digital Sovereignty and AI. To big topics that have become increasingly important.

I am attaching the email that Justin has sent us:

Hi Sri, thank you for reaching out and sharing the prospectus for the Linux App Summit 2026. I am CCing the Fedora Council here to ensure full visibility on this opportunity.

We are particularly interested in LAS's new focus on AI/ML and Digital Sovereignty. The Fedora AI/ML SIG is exploring a new identity as a "Fedora AI" initiative designed to provide a premium platform for AI/ML builders and developers. Because our strategic goals align closely with your planned tracks, I propose exploring a formal Media Sponsorship.

By using Fedora Magazine, our social channels (e.g., Mastodon, Matrix, Discourse, LinkedIn, etc.), and our internal planning mediums, we can engineer a targeted promotional funnel. We can tailor this outreach specifically to drive either Fedora contributors (the builders shaping the ecosystem) or Fedora users directly to LAS. This represents a high-ROI opportunity to increase your attendee acquisition from the Fedora ecosystem while highlighting our shared objectives.

As I do not have unilateral authority to execute this, the process requires an official proposal. Could you or a member of the LAS sponsorship committee open a ticket with the Fedora Mindshare Committee proposing this media partnership? Once the ticket is open, we can collaboratively review it and define the exact deliverables.

Looking forward to seeing what we can build together for Berlin.

The conference is at:

https://linuxappsummit.org/

Our CfP is also open so please we invite you to put in some talks especially for those representing Fedora. What you have seen in regards to applications, what does Fedora need? etc etc.

https://linuxappsummit.org/

(we would of course be delighted if you also would sponsor us, let's grow this conference and hopefully that becomes more important in the future)

Hi @sramkrishna! Our next scheduled Mindshare Committee meeting is on Thursday, 2 April at 06:00 US Eastern. I know that is even way earlier for you, but we are pretty good at following up on tickets after our meeting. I'll bump this as a timely conversation to discuss in our next meeting.

Also, as a note, this issue is going to move to forge.fedoraproject.org/mindshare sometime soon, once a migration bug gets fixed. It might be before 2 April. If you have not logged in there, it would be a good idea to do it in advance!

My practical ask before the Mindshare Committee meets is to know more about the following:

  1. What benefit or recognition would Fedora get for this media partnership?
  2. What types of content creation are desired for a LAS media sponsor?
  3. What frequency/cadence of content would be appropriate for a LAS media sponsor?

I'm sure we will have some more questions, but this is a start!

Here are the answers:

  1. What benefit or recognition would Fedora get for this media partnership?

You will have the fedora logo as a media sponsor along the side of other media folks that have also graciously partnered with us. Conference goers will know that you are helping to promote the conference. Unfortunately, other than the web page there likely will be no other benefit.

That said, if you on the merits if you provided a contribution of audience acquisition or provided us with a way to gain more sponsors through your network then we will definitely consider a verbal thank you during the conference.

  1. What types of content creation are desired for a LAS media sponsor?

We are looking for a partner who can help build mindshare about LAS. One of the challenges of LAS is building the kind of outreach needed to bring people to the conference. So we would be looking for content that would engage your audience to think about apps on linux and inspiring them to register and attend LAS. As such, we are also looking for building our media channels - getting more followers on bluesky and mastodon.

We could also contribute articles on the nature of what would make a successful app platform on Linux. The themes of digital sovereignty and AI and how it applies to applications are good stories especially by the people involved in writing apps.

  1. What frequency/cadence of content would be appropriate for a LAS media sponsor?

Our CfP is almost ending so a few posts about getting their talks in between now. As well, would be good to promote our keynote speaker, our speakers at least those who you find interesting. (eg if they are fedora members etc)

Hopefully these gives you an idea of what we are looking for.

Discussed in 2026-04-02 Mindshare Committee meeting.

Hey @sramkrishna! 👋 The Mindshare Committee conditionally approved the media sponsorship intent for the upcoming Linux App Summit 2026 in Berlin. Because the event is rapidly approaching in May, the pending action item is for the LAS organizers to provide our team with base promotional content. Once that base content is received, our marketing contributors will adapt and amplify the messaging across the Fedora Magazine, Mastodon, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

To brainstorm ideas for this, here are things that would be useful:

  • Brand & identity: Visual assets, logos, etc.
  • Reusable text blurbs: Standard information about the event, describing the conference, who attends, who should come, etc. Helps to make sure we consistently represent the conference in our communications; it can be the ground truth.
  • Suggestions for promotion cadence: How much promotional material is ideal or sufficient for the media sponsorship? Should we come up with something formal, e.g., three Fedora Magazine articles with associated social media posts for each? Open to ideas.
  • Key social media accounts to tag/follow/promote: Helps us cross-promote content and direct followers on social media to your channels.

Closing this out as state/wontfix. Unfortunately, we were not able to execute this media partnership. We did not receive the required information in time to coordinate the social media promotion before the event took place on May 16-17, 2026.

@sramkrishna, I would love to make this work for Linux App Summit 2027. I would suggest reaching out earlier in the planning cycle so we have enough lead time to coordinate with the Fedora Marketing Team on social media promotion. We would be happy to revisit this.
