How do you primarily contribute to Fedora?
A key goal of attending is to grow our community. This section explains how our presence at Data Con LA 2026 helps us attract new users and contributors, and how the event fits into our pipeline for onboarding new people to the Fedora project.
We also plan to distribute Fedora swag items throughout the day.
Our enthusiasm to educate inspires guests to contribute their time and expertise to teach and help with Fedora and to give back to the community.

Fedora and openSUSE are planning to co-locate and attend the annual Data Con LA 2026 event. As mentioned by their website, it's "A full-day event covering data science, AI/ML, data engineering, business analytics, and data careers. Sessions are designed for everyone from high school students to seasoned industry experts. Multiple tracks, panels, keynotes, and networking — all for a fraction of what comparable conferences charge."
Data Con LA 2026—the 14th year of this Expo—takes place on August 22, 2026, in Long Beach, California, United States.

How will you use Fedora budget for this event?
See: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Data_Con_LA_2026_Event#Outreach_&Onboardinghttps://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Data_Con_LA_2026_Event#Outreach&_Onboarding
Budget will be used primarily for gas for auto travel for Fedora ambassadors and potentially associates requiring travel to the event who are working at the booth.
Are you a speaker or presenter?
No. We may provide at booth presentations to draw further community guests to our booth.
Are you an organizer or volunteer?
Co-organizer of the event.
Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?
Data Con LA 2026 covers a region that spans the Southern California area, but also may include guests commuting in worldwide. We as Ambassadors see the event as a focal point that draws visitors from all over the state of California and around the world. Since this event is located in a strategic geographical area, we provide Fedora outreach and education to the Greater Los Angeles area. Most of the attendees are from locations that have and participated in Linux User Groups locally as well as from neighboring states and countries.
Additionally, openSUSE coordinator Mir joins us this year to share expert perspective on the benefits of developing data science within Open Source distributions.
Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?
Each year, we bring forth the vision that Fedora is more than just another distribution. We interact with guests to see how they find Fedora useful, versatile, and feature-rich in their daily lives and bring the Fedora community together. Also the venue is in proximity to Long Beach Airport (LGB), drawing locals, neighboring communities, and international guests.
Are there others in the Fedora community who could help this event be successful?
@rmcbryde has expressed being able to provide ancillary support for this event. He may be separately requesting reimbursement for gas travel from his home location to the event location.
Is there anything else the Fedora Mindshare Committee should know when reviewing your request?
We are requesting an Event Box. Please ship to arrive to Perry Rivera by no later than 16 August 2026. If you need my home address, please contact Perry Rivera by Slack to provide this info.
Please include:
+1 for stickers, event box stuff, colouring books and pens.
I would have to see a budget to approve commuter mugs, tshirts, hats and or bandanas.
+1. I'm moving quickly on this because I feel like this request was more or less approved in #143, and we just don't have a good way yet for an event owner to request an event box as part of their event request.
An aside, but an issue template for the event box requests might be overdue!
In the meantime, I have placed the shipping request for the US Event Box. The requested arrival date/time is Wednesday, August 12 in the AM hours.
@theprogram wrote in #144 (comment):
I think this is just confusing for everyone involved, but I will strictly use this ticket for shipping and return status updates on the US Event Box dispatch. For new swag which is NOT already in the event box but would be printed for this event, I will only be able to do stickers with the timeframe available.
Let's keep the stickers/swag topic in #143, and use this issue just to keep track of the big ol' expensive trunk of silicone 😀
Were there any expenses (besides shipping) to track for this issue? The swag additions were tracked in #143. I think this can be closed?
@shaunm, agreed. If there is not anything dangling with this ticket, let us close this and discuss terms in #143.
Looks like the box shipment was taken care of. Let's take care of the rest in #143.
