The conference will be closely organized in collaboration with the Fedora community, showcasing their contributions to open-source development.

Are you a speaker or presenter? If yes, give the title and description of your presentation: Yes; I will be giving talks on Open Source Mentoring and How Fedora Infrastructure and Release Engineering Work. Additionally, I will be supporting (as co-presenter) the Fedora Release Party for Fedora 41.
Are you an organizer or volunteer? If yes, explain your role: Yes; I am helping organize the GNOME Asia Summit this year by forming a local team with Fedora contributors in India. My role involves closely collaborating with the GNOME organizers to ensure seamless integration of Fedora’s presence at the summit plus organizing it as a whole altogether. We are working on coordinating various activities, including scheduling a special track for Fedora lightning talks and organizing the Fedora Release Party for Fedora 41. We are also planning to dedicate one day to Fedora after the summit for discussion regarding the future of Fedora in APAC regions. This collaborative effort aims to strengthen our community ties and revitalize local Fedora events across the globe, with APAC serving as a leading model for future gatherings.
Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?: This event offers an excellent opportunity for local Fedora contributors in the APAC region to convene during GNOME Asia and host a modest local gathering to maintain connections with fellow contributors. The decline of smaller local Fedora gatherings in recent years highlights the need for this initiative, which aims to rejuvenate local meetups and lay the groundwork for future events. Moreover, several of our contributors will be delivering talks at GNOME Asia, and we're planning a Fedora release celebration. Is there anything else the Fedora Mindshare Committee should know when reviewing your request?: We participated in the GNOME Asia Summit in Nepal in 2023, which turned out to be very productive and beneficial for our community. In 2024, as organizers of the summit, we aim to build on that success and strengthen the APAC community. This is particularly important since there are limited celebrations for Fedora in the APAC region. By hosting this event, we hope to foster greater engagement, collaboration, and celebration among Fedora contributors in the area.
Additionally, since the summit will be held at the Red Hat Bangalore office, I was thinking that Fedora could consider exploring sponsorship opportunities for this event. This support could enhance our visibility and demonstrate our commitment to the local and the GNOME open-source community.

I missed this ticket while I was out on PTO. There are multiple aspects to this event that make it a strategic use of Fedora funds. We have unique partnerships in India for this event that make it incredibly efficient from a spending perspective that we either never or rarely get in regions like North America or West/Central Europe. Also considering the ongoing challenges with sponsoring Indian attendees to events like Flock due to visa challenges, we should be thoughtful about empowering local communities across the world in a more equitable way.

From a Fedora budget perspective, we do have enough in the budget for CY24 to fund this, as proposed. I know this process has not been transparent, but I am optimistic that CY25 will finally see a return to the fully open model of Fedora budget reporting. In the meantime, here is what I have planned for this proposal:

Sponsorship: $3,500 USD (spent as event execution instead of payment to GNOME Foundation)
Fedora community travel: $5,400 USD
Funded travelers: @gridhead @samyak-jn @sumantrom @amsharma3 @jonatoni @smeragoel @NekoNya3 @likeanushkaa

Per the Large Events Policy, the minimum amount of time has passed for this ticket to be reviewed, but it needs to receive one additional +1 vote from another Mindshare Committee member.
