Release Party Template

During FOSSCOMM 2024 on November 9-10 in Greece, I’d like to host a Fedora 41 release party after the first day’s talks conclude. FOSSCOMM is Greece’s national free and open source software conference, drawing attendees from diverse backgrounds to discuss trends, technologies, and FOSS projects. Given Fedora 41’s recent release, this gathering would be an informal social event with pizza and refreshments, creating an open space for attendees to connect, learn about Fedora’s latest features, and discuss the broader FOSS ecosystem.

  1. Full Name Efstathios Iosifidis
  2. FAS ID* iosifidis
  3. Event Date* November 9th
  4. Event Location* Thessaloniki/ Greece
  5. Wiki Page Release Party F41 Greece
  6. Swags Suggested/not necessary
  7. Budget ~500Euros
  8. Target Audience* End users / Developers
  9. Estimated Number of People ~250ppl (there are about 450 registered by the time of creating the issue)

Hi @eiosifidis, thanks for opening this ticket and for your efforts in organizing a Fedora Release Party at FOSSCOMM 2024! It has been a long time since we held an event in Greece. Per your FAS profile, I see you are a sponsored Fedora Ambassador, therefore making you eligible to request this amount of funding.

However, per the Medium Event Policy, this ticket needs 11 days with three +1 votes and no -1 votes from Mindshare Committee members. This means that 500€ total sponsorship could only be determined on Thursday, 14 November. This is after the event. I am not 100% sure about this budget, so there is a real chance that we cannot fund that much.

However… here is a possible compromise. I can make the play for 500€ sponsorship ASAP. I need to be confident that we can fund it before I vote. However, if I get the confirmation needed before Friday, then we can vote on funding this as a Medium Event and officially approve it next week. However, if I am not sure about the budget, we can still fund this under the Small Event policy in the next three days for $150 USD. This is a smaller sponsorship, but it guarantees that we can get something in place before this Friday.

Thoughts? Is this a workable compromise? I will start digging into Fedora budget data to see if I can find 500€.

Hello @jwflory

Thanks for trying.
Well at the event we are going to have all the open source community in Greece and it is a good opportunity to celebrate Fedora 41 release. By the way, two Red Hat employees will have a talk.

Please do your magic to achieve that amount. If not, then a Small Event is OK. I just need to ask the organizers to cover the rest.
Regarding receipts after the event, I need to take a picture of the common receipt, if it's OK.

I also need to start promoting this (and ask organizers to promote that event as well, as Fedora Release Party).

Although I didn't have news about this, we promoted it as Fedora Release Party.
I am out of Fedora promo materials.

Here is my report in English

As part of ticket triage, @eiosifidis is there any outstanding items for this request? Or can I go ahead and close it as complete? I see you have provided links to your blog post, etc regarding the event so I think this could be considered closed complete.

Thanks for checking this. I'm all out of swag for now, and I don't have any new events planned that would require more.
When I do organize another meetup or a release party, I'll submit a new request just like this one.
So, I agree, it's best to close this ticket. Are you OK with that?
