About you

  • Name: SCaLE 22x

  • FAS username: Event owner: Alex Acosta Alternate event owner: Perry Rivera

  • How do you primarily contribute to Fedora? (2-3 sentences): We provide event advocacy for the Fedora at the Southern California Linux Expo.

About the event

  • Event name(s): SCaLE22x - The 22nd edition of the Southern California Linux Expo

  • Event dates: from 6 March 2025 to 9 March 2025

  • Event location(s): Pasadena, CA USA

  • Event URL(s): Event page Fedora wiki page

  • Event description(s) (2-4 sentences per event): * SCaLE covers a region that spans the west coast, but also includes many guests worldwide. Each year, we bring forth the vision that Fedora is more than just another distribution and interact with guests to see how they find Fedora useful, versatile, and feature-rich in their daily lives and bring the Fedora community together. We as Ambassadors see the event as a focal point that draws visitors from all over the state of California and around the world. Since this event is the only one of its kind in this geographical area, we provide Fedora outreach and education to the Greater Los Angeles area. Most of the attendees are from locations that have and participate in Linux User Groups locally as well as from neighboring states and countries.

Requested support

NOTE: The budget amount you request is a hard limit. If actual spend exceeds the requested budget, the extra amount will not be reimbursed. It is suggested to pad your requested budget with a buffer amount, in case of changing travel costs, hotel rates, etc.

This event & Fedora

  • **Are you a speaker or presenter? The fedora group proposed talks were not approved, and neither the individuals proposed bt Alex and Perry. However, Scott got approved and he's presenting a talk in the event and there will be a Fedora+CentOS classroom led by CentOS's Carl George and Shaun McCance and Fedora's Justin Flory

  • Are you an organizer or volunteer? If yes, explain your role: We're requesting budget for ambassadors @douglax , @perryrivera ,Chavero, Monroe, Williams, @nbebout to attend and help with the Fedora booth.

  • Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?: Our community relies on our presence to see that their support needs are met. Not showing up may result in community flocking to other distributions that make the effort to show up.

  • Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?: We plan to provide booth demonstrations of the distribution and to entertain feedback and discussion. Our goal is to educate attendees about the various spins and environments available.

  • Are there others in the Fedora community who could help this event be successful? If yes, name any key individuals, teams, or SIGs in the Fedora community needed for success: @jwflory

Other

  • Is there anything else the Fedora Mindshare Committee should know when reviewing your request?: Please review as soon as possible. Quick approval will facilitate travel arrangement. Thank you.

@douglax you left me off your list - I'm on the budget request on the wiki page but you didn't mention my name in your ticket. I am an ambassador as well.

+1 for a total budget of $9000.88.

We need additional discussion for other parts, but given this makes up three +1 votes, this event is approved. The following travelers may proceed to book airfare and hotels if they have not already:

  • Alejandro Acosta
  • Iván Chavero
  • Perry Rivera
  • Scott Williams
  • Brian Monroe
  • Nick Bebout

Red Hat employees should refer to this internal documentation about how to do a cost center transfer at Red Hat. Red Hat employees must use Red Hat's travel booking platform for travel.

To clarify my vote, I am +1 for $9000.88, which is different from the requested $9680.88. This is because $680 includes incidental costs. After retrospecting on challenges with the Fedora reimbursement process in 2024, going forward, Fedora will return to only covering travel and accommodation expenses. However, for folks who are Red Hat employees, we can work out some ways to have a sponsored Ambassador meal on-site.

This needs to be discussed and documented, although I recognize the Mindshare Committee has not met in some time. I hope to restart the meetings later in 2025, after FOSDEM completes.

Also, thanks for compiling a clean, easy-to-read budget proposal for the event!
