Summary
Plan and execute the Fedora presence at FOSDEM 2025.
Event wiki page: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FOSDEM_2025
Background
FOSDEM is an important event for the Fedora community for a number of reasons. Here is what is already in motion:
Now, we need to build our roster of Fedora friends who will be there, so we can plan and coordinate the stand. Some financial assistance is available for speakers and volunteers contributing under the Fedora umbrella.
Details
Earlier this year, I forecasted our total event spend. Here is my current forecast. All estimates are in US Dollar (USD):
We need to allocate this funding equitably. Fedorans contributing directly to the event should receive priority for this, e.g. accepted as a speaker, volunteering with the Distributions DevRoom and Fedora stand, helping out with CentOS Connect, etc.
Outcome
The Fedora Project continues to have an influential presence in the open source community around the FOSDEM 2025 event and other fringe events (e.g. CentOS Connect).
changed title from Fedora @ FOSDEM 202{-4-} to Fedora @ FOSDEM 202{+5+}
assigned to @jwflory
changed due date to January 24, 2025
changed health status to at risk
To clarify from the information in the ticket and budget proposal, the request is for $8777 USD, which includes $4627 USD for travel and $4150 USD for hotels. This provides sponsorship for @gridhead, @sumantrom, @lbazan, @dmellado, and @mikelolasagasti.
+1
This event proposal is very close to the event itself, which although there is no cutoff date for the Large Events Policy, it makes it difficult to plan. I take ownership for the delay in the planning, and fortunately, we have had several contributors to the FOSDEM 2025 wiki page, so I feel more confident about signing off on this proposal.
Going forward, I will spend renewed time with the Mindshare Committee in 2025 to modernize our event policies and strategies, and evolve them for the 2020s and beyond.
Because of the close proximity to the event and the high probability of price volatility in travel fares, I am authorizing all named travelers in the budget proposal above to purchase their travel with the guarantee that Red Hat will cover these expenses. This is neither documented nor undocumented as a responsibility I have as the budget treasurer. For our community folks not working at Red Hat, expect that I will ask you to open a BEAR ticket before you can officially receive guarantee of payment by Red Hat.
changed due date to February 07, 2025
changed health status to on track
All reimbursements are concluded and budget data is recorded. Closing as complete. 🎬
