+1 for a Medium Event under $1000 USD

I've been working diligently on looking for funding for this proposal. At this time, the Fedora budget can approve up to $1000 USD maximum for this event. This should cover travel and accommodation for all Nigerians, but we cannot accommodate the international airfare for travelers from far. Once we have successfully planned one year of this event, we can hopefully scale up to a Large Event next year. :fingers_crossed_tone1:

A BEAR request is already underway; see https://gitlab.com/redhat/ospo/bear/-/issues/69.

Calling on other Mindshare Committee members to please review this funding proposal, ask any clarifying questions, and add your vote. This ticket needs three +1 votes and -1 votes by tomorrow (eleven days after the ticket was opened). If it meets this threshold by tomorrow, the event is approved and the event owner can go ahead and begin coordinating with the group on travel and hotels.

+1 from my end as well.

Do share the outcomes from the event once it is through as a part of blogpost or a footage, and hopefully that would help strengthen your case for higher budget in the next year.

This event is officially approved. @chrisidoko0017, you and the event team can go ahead and proceed with purchasing your airfare and hotels.

Also, there was a slight change to the plan for the event. It stays within budget, but it is a slightly modified schedule. @chrisidoko0017 and @roselynbassey will book a hotel for one night earlier, in order to attend CHAOSScon Africa. In the original plan, Chris and Roseline would arrive on the day of the event, and likely miss it due to travel logistics.

In order to keep the event within budget, I advised Chris to reduce the community dinner from 15 people to 10 people, which saves us enough money to get the extra hotel night for Chris and Roseline.

@TosinDoreen Tagging you in this ticket because I believe Chris will be reaching out to you for support on arranging the hotel in Lagos for you, Chris, and Roseline, as well as scouting Lagos for a 10-person meal during the week of OSCAFest.

Today is my last day before I go out on leave. While I don't anticipate any budget-related challenges while I am on leave, @jasonbrooks is the best person to ping for support on budgetary matters while I am out.

Hello @jasonbrooks

If an attendee from Lagos (the event city) chooses to stay at her residence, can the other participants use her hotel budget to offset their own costs?

My ideal scenario is for the total group hotel funding to remain $325, but distributed between two participants instead of three, as one will be staying at her home.

Hi @chrisidoko0017, as long as the people haven't changed, as in, we're not adding a new person, and as long as the things the money is being spent on are the same -- hotel and travel, this is fine.

Hello 👋 @jasonbrooks I created a Fedora Reimbursement Requests (FRRs) for this event via this ticket: https://gitlab.com/redhat/ospo/sponsorship/-/issues/67

I was the only participant so barley 30% of the intended budget was used.

Thanks @chrisidoko0017 for putting together this thoughtful event report on the Community Blog:

https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/oscafest25-chaoss25-lagos-nigeria/

From the summary and the pictures, it looked like the event was a successful scouting mission! I hope we can do more here in 2026.

Furthermore, I am aware that your reimbursement was successfully paid out. So, I believe there is nothing more to do here! Thanks for being a dedicated Fedora contributor and waving our FOSS flag in Lagos earlier this year.

Closing the ticket as complete. 🌊
