Akashdeep began contributing to Fedora Project as the initiative lead of the Fedora Websites & Apps Team, before moving on to developing and maintaining Fedora Infrastructure projects as part of the Red Hat Community Linux Engineering team. He also contributes to Mentor Summit, Join SIG, Badges Revamp, Forgejo Initiative, and is in the Mindshare committee and the Fedora Council.

Fedora Project community presence @ DevConf.IN 2026
The Fedora Project booth will demonstrate the latest developments in the Fedora Project ecosystem, including recent infrastructure improvements, package management innovations, contributor community initiatives and steadfast distribution development. Attendees can explore hands-on demonstrations of Fedora Linux across various devices and connect with Fedora Project community members. We will highlight Fedora Project's role as a proving ground for decisions and innovation accessible to everyone that eventually shape enterprise distributions (like CentOS Stream, Red Hat Enterprise Linux etc.) of the future, in the free and open source software environment.

I am helping organize DevConf.IN 2026 as a co-located employee of Red Hat.
Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?:
DevConf.IN is a flagship free and open source software event in APAC with representation from a wide spectrum of contributors - be it experienced engineers or budding members. Fedora Project is a great opportunity to expand its visibility on the ground in APAC while onboarding contributors from the college students that we have at MIT World Peace University.
Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?:
DevConf.IN is an event that happens at a stone-throw distance away from my house. It is an event from, by and for free and open source folks and being a Fedora Project contributor, I am all about that life. It is crucial to reestablish the local contributor collective there (not just in Pune but in APAC, generally speaking) to help drive community efforts.

Hello,
Absolutely, please count me in! I’m happy to help spread the word about the Fedora world. I’ve been doing this at various conferences, and for this particular effort, we also have a booth at DevConf CZ that draws a lot of attention.
On top of that, I’ve submitted a talk titled “Demystifying the Fedora Release Process: A Newcomer’s Perspective,” which aligns closely with the work I do day-to-day.
For the budget (for me flying from north), the estimated cost was around: $480;

@gridhead @samyak-jn Hi y'all! This is absolutely an event of high interest to Fedora.
But I think you skipped a step in the ideal process here. It seems like this is a ticket about only @gridhead's funding? First, we need a Fedora Wiki page for the event to help define the event goals, wrangle a list of participants, and document the event info in a way that we can share more easily than a GitLab ticket.
There are some awesome examples already on the Fedora Wiki. Here are three examples for you to lean on:
@gridhead Could you take responsibility to get the Wiki page together? I assume since you opened this ticket, you are raising your hand to be the Event Owner role in this scenario, which will be helpful to document.
Also, we probably want to get a Fedora Discussion topic up about DevConf India first to rally people there, instead of rallying people to an project-internal funding ticket.
Hi there, I was not expecting eyes on this ticket until the upcoming fortnightly Fedora Mindshare meeting so admittedly I had things all over the place. 🐵
That, of course, does not mean that I do not appreciate it - I absolutely do because it finally made me finish the wiki draft that I had around on an orphaned Google doc and the associated Discussion thread.
While I initially planned to make an EPIC to which a bunch of proposals associated to DevConf.IN 2026 would be linked and NOT something for myself alone, I want to hear your thoughts on this approach.
Also, thanks @samyak-jn for expressing your interest - we could use all the hands we can get!
The Wiki page and Fedora Discussion topic are great starts. There is more work to do first on getting an overall budget together for the event, so I am tagging this issue as ~"?::needs reporter feedback". Once the Wiki page has an event budget compiled for all participants, let's revisit this in a January 2026 Mindshare Committee to review the overall proposed budget.

I want to note that I have gone ahead to update the DevConf.IN 2026 Fedora Project wiki page with necessary information around the budget. From the discussions that ensued around swagpacks and tableclothes, we would rather use those that are being portered from various other conferences or various attending people. This is barely ideal, but given the slim timeframe, this is as good as we could have gotten this, and we can definitely do better work at the arrangement once the event proposal and handling SOP are in place.

I want to note the decrease in the proposed budget from 900 USD to 660 USD. The same has been reflected on the Fedora Project wiki page as well. This should hopefully help other events that we are yet to see throughout the year. Thanks!
