About you
Name: Artur Frenszek-Iwicki
FAS username: suve
How do you primarily contribute to Fedora? (2-3 sentences): I've been a package maintainer since 2017 and I've also helped at the Fedora FOSDEM booth a couple of times.
About the event
Event name(s): Poznańska Impreza Wolnego Oprogramowania (Poznań Free Software Party), a.k.a. PIWO (BEER)
Event dates: 30th of May 2026 (Saturday)
Event location(s): Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań, Poland
Event URL(s): https://2026.piwo.sh
Event description(s) (2-4 sentences per event): PIWO is a free to attend, all-day conference focused on Free, Libre and Open Source Software. It features talks and workshops, bringing together students, academics and industry professionals. Last year we saw almost 200 attendees and we're hoping to bring even more this year.
Requested support
Swag needs:
How will you use Fedora budget for this event?:
We'd like to use the Fedora budget to cover the following:
Total: 150 USD
This event & Fedora
Are you a speaker or presenter? If yes, give the title and description of your presentation: N/A (no CfP / agenda yet)
Are you an organizer or volunteer? If yes, explain your role: I am one of the organizers of the event. I handle various tasks like setting up some of our IT infrastructure, contacting speakers and media outlets.
Why is it a good idea for the Fedora Project to have a presence?: Because PIWO fills an important niche in the Poznań event scene - it is (AFAIK) the only FLOSS-related event that's both all-day (as opposed to many short, evening meetups) and free to attend (as opposed to commercial events). Last year we had almost 200 attendees; this makes PIWO a great opportunity to promote Fedora. As $150 would meet our Bronze Sponsor criteria, the Fedora logo would also be present in our marketing materials.
Why do you want to represent the Fedora community here?: Because Fedora is my distro of choice and I want PIWO to be the event of choice for FLOSS enthusiasts in Poland.
Are there others in the Fedora community who could help this event be successful? If yes, name any key individuals, teams, or SIGs in the Fedora community needed for success: Possibly Dominik Mierzejewski (
rathann) or Zbigniew Jędrzejewski-Szmek (zbyszek)? They're not directly involved with organizing PIWO, but we've met during other Linux-related events in Poland and they've always been friendly & helpful.Other
set status to To do
Poznan has a great tech and innovation scene, the budget is very low - looks like an easy win!
Discussed during the 2026-01-08 Mindshare Committee meeting.
This ticket was briefly brought up during today's meeting, but we ran out of time to discuss it in full detail. Given that the event is scheduled for May/June and the request amount is relatively small, we agreed to postpone the discussion to our next meeting.
Committee members have been actioned to review the proposal asynchronously in the meantime. Please add any questions or preliminary votes to this ticket ahead of our next meeting on January 22nd, 2026.
changed start date to January 22, 2026 and changed due date to January 26, 2026
+1 from me! Sounds like a great event :D
+1 from me too!
changed the description
It took us a few weeks longer than we hoped, but we were able to finally secure a date and venue. Updated the first post with new information.
mentioned in issue #101
Can't edit the original post now, so adding a new comment instead.
We've settled on P.I.W.O. Poznań Free Software Fest as the English name of the event. There is also an English version of the website available at 2026.piwo.sh/en, though it's currently only accessible via direct link, as we haven't coded the language switcher yet. 😅
+1
+1 from me, good luck with the event 😁
Poznańska Impreza Wolnego Oprogramowania has had a regular representation from our end, and there is little reason why we would not want to sponsor this time around, too. As always, please focus on sharing the event experiences with others as much as possible, using event reports and see if others from the region can join in the fun as well.
That being said, +1 from my end.

Discussed in 2026-04-02 Mindshare Committee meeting.
The Mindshare Committee unanimously approved the requested $150 USD budget for the P.I.W.O. Poznań Free Software Fest occurring on May 30, 2026, as our new quarterly funding is now available. @suve is authorized to spend up to this amount for supporting the event.
I tagged this ticket as blocked on the final event report, within 30 days after the event happens. Let us know here if you need any help in the meantime, @suve! Thanks for your efforts in pulling this together. 😎🚀
Event report published on the Community Blog.

Thanks @suve great event, come and hit us up with a bigger proposal next year.
Quite a great Fedora Project representation for the little we spent on this - Please do not hesitate to request for more budget too. Thanks @suve for running this, representing this during Flock 2026 and also reporting the same, @zbyszek, for the talks, @atomic0blimp, for the housekeeping and @theprogram for your photography. All the exemplary actions that we want our event owners to repeat on and iterate upon. @jflory7, unless something else needs to be done, I think this can be closed now.
Closing this out. The XV PIWO (Poznan Free Software Party) took place on May 17, 2026 and was a major success, with 452 badges issued, more than doubling the previous year's 197 attendees.
Event report: https://communityblog.fedoraproject.org/fedora-at-xv-p-i-w-o-poznan-free-software-fest/
The event featured 24 talks across 3 tracks, 8 workshops, LAN party tournaments, and was the first edition held at Adam Mickiewicz University with honorary patronage from the President of the Poznan City Council. Four Fedora community members contributed talks, workshops, photography, and logistics. The SPOIWO alliance for digital sovereignty and open/free software was formally announced and signed at the event.
As @t0xic0der and @theprogram noted, this was excellent representation for the budget spent. We would welcome a larger proposal for the XVI edition. Thank you @suve for organizing this.
