Install media are getting changed a lot for F45:

It might be a good idea to organize test days for them.

If you take this ticket, please make the change owners subscribed to this ticket, talk to them whether organizing test days makes sense and whether they can participate (write test cases and other instructions), and help them handle the event preparation.

Thank you @kparal. I’ll summarize the state:

The atomic installers are done, pungi configs have been changed and @adamw has changed OpenQA to build Silverblue with image-builder there as well.

The boot.iso modernization changes will be in the next version of image-builder, which will release tomorrow. After that I’ll still need to make pungi changes. I’ll update here as necessary.

As for test days, yes that definitely makes sense for the boot.iso. Note that there is also a pending change to change the atomic installers to use the webui. If that change happens then a test day there is also a good idea; they can probably be merged?

Thanks, Simon. So do you think the test day should also focus on changes from https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/BuildAtomicDesktopsWithImageBuilder , or just https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/ModernizeBootISO ? Can you help us identify the best test cases for human testing? We of course have a lot of automation in this place, so it makes sense for humans to try things which are not covered by automation, or where they can spot issues while automation might not, or where it depends on people's hardware, etc.

As for https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/ModernizeLiveMedia , I hope for @ngompa 's feedback, but it seems the new boot menu items and the persistence storage is an obvious target for human testing.

Yeah, that could be merged here or perhaps even made standalone. Is there a Change description somewhere? I didn't find it...

Hey @kparal both are affected by the same set of changes as they both use 'modernized boot.iso' (the atomic installers are a boot.iso with an embedded ostree commit and kickstart).

What I'd say is that the test day can focus on the modernize boot iso parts only; for the atomic installers I don't feel it's necessary to have a test day for them but maybe someone else thinks that's important.

If the change for the atomics goes through (it's still pending afaik) then a test day specifically for the webui usage there would be nice?

Sounds good.

Here's the link: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Anaconda_WebUI_Fedora_Atomic
Let's decide that if/once that gets approved.

Hey @supakeen,
Just checking in: how is boot.iso modernization coming along?

Have you had a chance to chat with your team about when would be a good time for the test day?
We'd like to start preparing the test cases and event logistics once you have a rough timeframe.

Thanks!

@psklenar due to some unforeseen delays in testing the big pungi PR I have open it won't land before branching. I've requested to defer the change to Fedora 46 because it won't be testable in time. It should land in rawhide relatively soon still but test-days wise it'll be part of the F46 cycle.

Note that that only applies to boot.iso modernization, not to the atomic ISOs but that's a separate matter I think 🙂

Moving to next sprint for now, but - seems like we might want to kick this to next cycle, but I'm not sure about https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/ModernizeLiveMedia and https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/Anaconda_WebUI_Fedora_Atomic . @ngompa , what is the status of the first? @supakeen , the second has just been accepted; will it still be possible to implement it for F45 or should we defer it to F46 also?

Apparently dracut was just upgraded to v111, but I don't have time to work through it now so it will need to be deferred to F46.
