We want provide a workshop at Flock. Here a draft proposal.

Align Fedora Server tighter to user needs

Workshop
Emmanuel Seyman, Alexander Bokovoy, Peter Boy

We want to take this opportunity to initiate a lively discussion among Fedora Server Edition users (including future users). This follows on from our survey last year, which yielded a number of suggestions and requests. We would like to start a widespread discussion to coordinate and involve users in further development.

The topics of discussion are open and will primarily be determined by the participants. On behalf of the Working Group, we would like to propose the following topics

  • Initialising a participatory software development model to create a homeserver spin-off
  • Determine needs for additional documentation to ease the use of features and increase usability
  • Measures to elaborate Access protection in addition to user/password method

Comments (not part of public announcement)

Fedora Homeserver spin-off

  • Basic features requests
  • Software inventory catalog
  • Organization of dialogue, early testing, optimization, and joint steering of development.

Software documentation

  • Currently, the working group intends to simplify backup according to various selection criteria through configuration and documentation, especially for servers installed in remote data centers.
  • Where are there further gaps in the documentation that should be closed as quickly as possible (and who can help with this)?

Security

  • The working group intends to introduce the newly developed localkdc as the default supplementary authentication method. What additional security measures and configurations are needed or at least desirable?
