I started writing an article on dnf-automatic only to discover that there was already one on this page:

https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fedora-server/installation/postinstallation-tasks/

There is a ton of content on this page, and I think it would help if it was broken out so that people could consume them a la carte and not necessarily in order.

The section writes itself and feels like a natural home for some of these odd bits:

Installation ...
Configuration (or Post-Installation?)
- Cockpit/Dashboard
- Locale
- NTP
- Hostname
- Basic Security Hardening (fail2ban, SSH keys, ...)
- Automatic Updates (dnf-automatic, podman-auto-update, ...)
- Pager/editor/motd...
- Management/Automation (Ansible article)
- LUKS/TPM/Clevis
- ...

Summary of August 06, 2026, meeting

One idea was to rename and expand the ‘post-installation’ section to a (general) 'configuration' section. On the other hand, this section contains tasks that are to be carried out at a specific point in time and relate to the server as a whole, rather than to individual services.
Another question is whether ‘DNF automatic’ falls under this section. Isn’t that more of a ‘basic administration’ task?
The criterion for classifying something as ‘post-installation’ could be the question: ‘Do you always need to do this?’ / ‘Does every audience need to do this?’
The documentation for DNF automatic is very sparse and scattered across Quick Docs and the Wiki. Fedora really needs a DNF guide. Goroboro is ready to write a guide like this.

The discussion should continue in the ticket and lead to a mutually acceptable proposal.

Nearly complete now, I will soon remove the WIP label for review.
