Whats New in Fedora Workstation for F45 Magazine Article #525

Hi workstation folks,

As part of the F45 release, it would be great for all editions to have their own 'Whats New' article for Fedora Magazine. Could you please find an author for the F45 release article and follow the Magazine teams sop for proposing? Or assign the owner and I will submit the pitch on their behalf. The deadline to submit the article will be two weeks before early release, so 6 Oct, 2026.

Thank you very much!
Aoife

The GNOME upstream release notes are being prepared at https://gitlab.gnome.org/Teams/Websites/release.gnome.org/-/tree/51-staging/content/gnome-51

Most of these features are Fedora Workstation features, so it is a good start for the Fedora Magazine article.

Hi @amoloney , in the past we worked with an author on the magazine side - the author would prepare the content, which we would then review and help with. From this ticket, it sounds like the process has changed, and we're expected to produce the entire thing?

It was previously written by me or matrdm (and I think Matthews article was when there were only a few editions), although for F44 and F43 the fedora magazine editors might have picked this up while I was out. As we have several editions now available each release, it would be great for each to have a magazine article published by the teams responsible for working on the great new features. I've opened similar tickets for KDE and Cloud so far, and intend to open a request with all editions.

I think it's probably more suited to final though, not beta, in hindsight.

Is this something the Workstation team can own? I'm happy to help with it where needed.

@amoloney thanks for the offer! It might be tricky for us to find someone to work on this, but I'll ask around and keep this ticket up to date.

It would be nice if the magazine article wasn't just a rehash of the GNOME release notes. However, I've had a look at the systemd and kernal changes between F44 and F45, and can't see anything notable. If anyone knows of non-GNOME changes that are relevant for workstation, please let us know in the comments.

Do we want to review notable changes in the kernel between F44 GA and F25 GA? It's a tricky sell given that the changes are in F44 too, but there are improvements happening and it's a shame not to market them somehow.
